Fiestas Fridas: Frida Kahlo Festival | July 1 – July 17, 2015.

Celebration of the 108th birthday of Frida Kahlo and her love affair with San Francisco.

Please wear flowers in your hair. This festival occurs over several days (note the addresses next to each event).

As a project of Cine+Mas SF, FFSF raises funds for a LaTEENo Youth Filmmakers program via events that celebrate art, community & the Life of Frida Kahlo.

July 1st to the 4th –

El Dia del Angelito de Frida.

A new Fiestas Fridas event in honor of Frida’s baby, which she lost on July 4th.

Help us build a community altar. Please drop by and leave an offering for the baby at Casa Bonampak. Featuring an original work by Heather Calderón. Since placing an offering on an altar, you can come at any time to place your gift fit for the baby. Please take a picture of your item and tell us why this is your offering.

July 7th 3 to 5 pm –

We kick it all off with Polu Manu’s 7th year of Pasion de Frida art exhibit at Puerto Alegre curated by Bird Levy. July 7th 6:30 to 8:30 pm –

Artist Reception at Alley Cat Books and Gallery for our FRIDArte Window and Mural unveiling. Our featured artists G Billie Quijano, Antonio Torrez Solis, ZenPencils, Eddie Valentine and Jaime Ferrer. 3036 24th St

July 11th 2 to 7 pm –

FRIDArte & KAHLOveras heART Reception and the 108th birthday celebration/Art Walk. Meet on the corner of 24th and Harrison by 3 pm, we will visit all of the venues featuring FRIDArte and meet with the heARTists. Join us for a Poetry Slam Open Mic hosted by Raggedy Andey with original Frida prose by Norberto Flores. Alley Cat Books 3036 24th St

July 12th 2 to 6 pm –

FRIDArte make and take Art Faire and FRIDArte vendors. Free with a $5 donation towards FRIDA art materials. We will also try and set a record for the most Fridas taking a Selfie at once.https://www.facebook.com/events/459630870879619/

July 13th 6 to 8 pm –

FRI-DiA de los Muertos is our second new Fiestas Fridas event. We celebrate the 61st anniversary celebration of Frida’s Passing at Casa Bonampak. Bring an offering and help us build the FRIDAltar in her honor. Featuring an original piece by Heather Calderón. 1051 Valencia St.

July 17th 6:30 to 8:30 –

A Presentation of “Los Dibujos y Cartas de La Chica Frida/ The Drawings and Letters of the Young Frida” by Jaime Ferrer. A study of Frida from 1919 to 1929. A discussion and display of rarely seen drawings and letters between Frida and her two young lovers. Alley Cat Books 3036 24th St
