From Hayward to Hollywood: Tom Hanks Credits Chabot College

Bay Area born Actor Tom Hanks has come out in support of President Obama’s proposal to make community college free for 2 years.  In a New York Times op-ed, Hanks credits his experience at Hayward’s Chabot College for making him who he is today.

After graduating from Skyline High School in Oakland, Hanks chose Chabot “because it accepted everyone and was free.” He goes on to detail how his classes at the Hayward community college have inspired many of his projects throughout his career.  Hanks goes on to say that Obama’s proposal will change lives, just as Chabot changed his.

From an Oakland high school, to a Hayward community college, all the way to Hollywood, Hanks’ story is an inspirational reminder of how valuable community college is.  Making it more accessible will open doors to those who may have not had the chance otherwise.
